Size of bridles i.e.. 1/2" x 5/8" refers to a bridle with 1/2" cheek pieces, usually 3/8" caveson strap and 5/8" browband. A 5/8" x 3/4" bridle has 5/8" cheek pieces and a 3/4" browband. Our bridles are all shipped with 5/8" reins unless otherwise stated.

NOTES ABOUT GIRTHS - About 35 years ago, research showed that girths should have elastic at both ends, stretch over the entire length or no elastic at all. More recent research with thermographic cameras and ultra -sound technology have shown even more problems with girths that have elastic at only one end. Older laminated tree saddles will usually incur warpage in the tree from these girths. With girths with elastic at only one end, modern saddles with polycarbonate(or other plastic) trees(about 80% of saddles sold today) tend to set up a motion in the saddle that causes the horse to tense his back muscles and cause pain or unwanted movement, either to one side or onto the shoulder. Most top veterinarians who specialize in equine back issues related to saddles, recommend that girths have no elastic, total stretch over entire length or elastic at both ends.
