Most bits are available in different materials and with different links or joints. The following codes are used in our catalogue and are listed below each type of bit. This listing is an effort to give you an idea of what is available for each type of bit.
S.S. stainless steel, usually 18/8 weight ratio of steel and nickel
G.S. German silver, usually 50% to 60% copper + zinc + nickel
NR Never rust steel, brass and nickel blend

KORSTEEL JOHN PATTERSON BITS are made by KORSTEEL. These bits have more curve to the mouthpiece so that the joint does not interfere with the roof of the mouth and the bars are more comfortable, especially with Arab and Thoroughbred type mouths.

WE ARE NOW CARRYING MYLER BITS. We have a reasonable selection in stock already and will have more bits in stock come early April.

We have a MYLER bit rental program for trying out the bits. The rental is $12 for one bit for up to a week(second bit is $8 for the same period). If you buy the bit, the rental will be credited to the purchase.(One bit rental fee per purchase, so $12 credit, maximum). If you buy a different MYLER bit than the rental, a $5 credit will be issued. Care must be taken while trying out bits, bits must be returned in good condition or you will be charged the full purchase price.

JOHN PATTERSON BITS
These quality S.S. bits from KORSTEEL are unique in their design. Unlike the nearly straight sections of a regular jointed snaffle's mouthpiece, which exert direct pressure on the bars of the mouth when you take back on the reins, the curved bars of the JP bits reduce the "nutcracker" action and stop the bit from hitting the roof of the mouth. The curve shape also allows room for the horse's tongue. These bits encourage comfort in the horse's mouth that assists in achieving top level performance.
